The bottle and packaging is meant to be a 'larff' with ladies passing out at the sight of Capt Frobishers fabulously festooned facial furniture! However as the IWSC judges discovered when awarding another Silver medal recently and Jane MacQuitty in last weeks' Times 'Top Californian' say '..within is a juicy, unoaked, sweet redcurrant and herb-flecked joy, made from old vine Cabernet Franc'.
The branding is a play on the Cabernet Franc varietal and goes on about Captain Frobishers fabulously festooned facial furniture! It may be tongue in cheek, but to get away with this type of marketing, the wine has to be good and Good Ol' Capn Frank doesn't disapoint. Bright notes of juicy red fruits are complimented by blackcurrant leaf and forest floor aromas so typical of Cabernet Franc. Smooth, medium bodied and easy drinking wine that strikes a lovely balance with its blackberry, plum and dark cherry fruit.
