Top scoring 96/100 for the 2022 vintage in July's Decanter Magazine
This 22ha domaine is situated on the upper slopes of the St-Andelain commune. The vines are on flinty clay – hence the name of this wine, meaning flint – on south- and west-facing slopes. Since 1930 the domaine has been replacing vines with its own stock. The winery is on three levels, allowing the wine to be moved by gravity. This wine was fermented in stainless steel and left on its fine lees until bottling. Jim Budd: Light citric and grapefruit aromas; attractive mouthfilling texture, good balancing acidity and a vibrant, long finish. Still a little tight but will open out. Natalie Earl: Bright, vibrant aromas of green apple, freshly squeezed lemon, lime rind and spring blossom. Great intensity with lingering lime and greengage. Ben Llewelyn: Punchy fermented grass, struck flint, complex aromatics. Mineral coolness, luscious fruit without being cloying. A very accomplished wine for 2022. 96 Pts Decanter (April ’24)

A domaine formed through a marriage of the owning families of two adjacent domaines in the early 20th century, Bouchié-Chatellier remains a leading producer in Pouilly-Fumé, producing wines that benefit from the complementary mix of terroirs that the original merger bought about. This cuvée is produced from selected plots grown on the shelly, flinty, kimmeridgeian clay of the Saint-Andelain hill overlooking the Loire river. “A classic flinty, minerally leafy style of Sauvignon Blanc from this Pouilly Fume: a really enjoyable palate with a zesty, slightly ‘prickly’ mouth feel, “ the judges said “Good length too”.
