Scented and very ripe, with a bit of tension on the end. One of the rare wines here that’s good value! 16 Pts Jancis Robinson writing on JancisRobinson.com
This wine was first brought to my attention when Matt Jukes from the Daily Mail said it was better than Argentinian Malbecs. I had to disprove him but eventually I agreed - it's bloody good. The harsh growing conditions bring the best out of the low yielding grapes and results in a well concentrated, enormously enjoyable rounded glass of dark, brambly fruit with hints of chocolate and the edges smoothed off by judicial use of American and French oak barrels
This is the follow-on vintage that Matt Jukes in the Daily Mail raved about with the following comments - 'One of the most fascinating discoveries of the year so far is this competitively-priced Malbec from the relatively cool climes of Victoria. With more sensual plum and cherry fruit than you might find in Argentinian Malbec, this is a star red, especially with the Lamb rump with green olive dressing recipe.' Need any more convincing?!!
