This is a classic modern White wine made by the hugely talented Donavan Rall
Vuurberg White is linear, clean, bright and posh, positively packed with rich, fresh stone fruit, white spice, green pepper/capsicum and a fine, pithy minerality that keeps on giving with a core of stony acidity and a relentless finish.
"Round and exciting with apple, pear and a creamy vanilla note. Bright mandarin fruit acidity. Textural, tight and minerally. 93 Points" Decanter Top 50 Wines of the Year 2013
The white is a blend of Chenin Blanc 39%, Viognier 15%, Semillon 15%, Verdelho 12%, Rousanne 8%, Grenche Blanc 7% and Chardonnay 2% mountain fruit! Sourced from estate vineyards in Stellenbosch with some Swartland fruit grown on decomposed granite, gravel and some clay. The grapes are picked as early as possible and rushed to the cellar where depending on the varietal they are either crushed and destemmed or transferred directly into a tiny manually operated basket press to be process whole bunch. All varietals are fermented wild and matured in a combination of French barrique and 400 litre barrels( 25% new). Full malolactic fermentation takes place and then the juice is blended after 9 months on the fermentation lees without stirring. The wine undergoes a coarse filtration during bottling.
