The 'house' Rioja at El Bulli in the good ol' days - so this endorsement alone shows its class. The winery follows sustainable viticulture and is moving towards organic practice. Aged for 17 months in French oak barrels, less than 3 years old; one third of which are renewed annually. Savoury aromas alongside lifted, perfumed notes of violet and blackberry. This wine shows all the elegance of the variety - tight and concentrated with spice, fine tannins, great complexity and purity. It never appears to be heavy with a sensational balance of elegance and sophistication.
2014 vintage - 95/100 Tim Aitken
“I’ve always liked and admired the wines from Valenciso; they seem to take the best from the traditional and more modern Rioja… One of the names that is undeservedly flying under the radar.” Luis Gutierrez, The Wine Advocate (28th June 2019):
“... always a delight to taste, and ages brilliantly in bottle. Made entirely from Tempranillo, spread over 14 parcels, it’s floral, elegant and refined with impressive finesse and subtle red fruit flavours. The oak is deftly integrated too.”
